How to find the network of a non-communicating light
Overview
When you sync a light, Commissioner will only attempt to communicate with the light on the network listed in the Fixture Network column. If you suspect the light may be on a different network than listed in the map, you can use the "Find on any network" feature.
The Find on any network feature is useful when a node has been programmed, but it is unknown what network the node was programmed to. This can also be useful if a node is not communicating during a sync or verify and there is concern the map file may be inaccurate.
Instructions
- Move the computer running Commissioner as close as possible to the non-communicating node
- Right-click the serial number of the non-communicating node in the map file. If the node is not in the map file, click Add Fixtures to add the serial number
- Select Advanced and then Ping
- In the Ping window, select Find on any network and then click Ping. Commissioner will now attempt to ping the light on all detected networks. This can take a few minutes depending on the number of networks present
- If the ping is successful, note the network that the ping was successful on. If the pings fail on all networks, then it is possible the serial number was typed incorrectly in the map file or the USB adapter is outside the communications range of the node. You can also power cycle the node and retry
- Exit the Ping window and right-click the node in the map file and select Edit Fixture
- In the Edit Fixture Configuration window, click the + in the bottom-left to expose the Current Network field
- Change the Current Network to the network that the ping succeeded on and then click Ok
- The Fixture Network column in Commissioner should reflect the updated network. Verify the light to ensure the light is communicating properly
