How to wirelessly commission replacement fixtures
Overview
This guide details the process for commissioning a replacement fixture following the removal and replacement of a malfunctioning fixture. If you are commissioning a new facility or a large quantity of replacement fixtures, then please visit Commissioner Online Help for information on other programming methods.
Fixtures can be commissioned wirelessly using a Telegesis USB wireless adapter (part number DLUSB). Purchased fixtures and un-commissioned RMA replacement fixtures must be commissioned from factory default settings to the Commissioner map file settings in order to communicate with LightRules or SiteWorx controls software.
Instructions
Before you start
Prior to programming a fixture wirelessly, you will need the following equipment or software:
- Telegesis USB wireless adapter (Digital Lumens part number DLUSB)
- A laptop running Commissioner software. Commissioner software can be downloaded from https://commissioner.lightrules.net/Content/English/Home.htm
- The map file for the facility.
- If the facility has LightRules, the map file can be downloaded by clicking the Config tab and selecting Manage Map File.
- If the facility has SiteWorx, the map file can be obtained by emailing siteworxops@siteworx.io.
Process for wirelessly commissioning replacement
- Determine the serial number of the fixture that is being replaced (the fixture that was previously controlled by SiteWorx or LightRules, but is being removed). There is a label on the fixture containing the serial number.
- Verify that the replacement fixture is installed and receiving power.
- Move the laptop with Commissioner within line-of-sight of the replacement fixture.
- Open the map file in Commissioner software.
- Connect the DLUSB to a USB port on the laptop.
- It is important that Commissioner software is installed before connecting the DLUSB to the laptop in order to avoid Windows installing incorrect drivers.
- If the DLUSB is not recognized by Commissioner, please Install/Update "Telegesis" USB Wireless Adapter Driver.
- In Commissioner, select the Fixtures tab, then enter the serial number of the fixture you are replacing into the Filter search box.
- Right-click the fixture you are replacing and select Replace Fixture.
- Click OK to proceed with replacing the fixture in the map file.
- In the Replace Fixture Wizard, select Discover it using a USB wireless adapter and then select Next.
- On the Replace Fixture Window, check that the network is set to Factory Default Network and then select Discover.
- The below message may appear if there are few fixtures on factory default network within wireless communications range of the DLUSB. If so, click Yes to proceed.
- This will populate the table with all fixtures discovered on Factory Default Network. Fixtures with the highest signal strength will appear at the top of the table with the Signal column indicating relative signal strength. Clicking a fixture in the table and waiting 10 seconds will cause the light bars to blink. Starting at the top of the table, blink fixtures in the table until the desired fixture blinks.
- Please highlight the serial number of the desired fixture and select Next >.
- The following window will allow you to change the name and zone of the replacement fixture. If this is a direct replacement, the fixture name and zone should not be changed from the pre-populated values. Select Program Now to complete commissioning.
- The commissioning process may take a minute or so. The horizontal bar will indicate progress. Success will be noted once the fixture is programmed.
- Click Done to exit the Replace Fixture window. The replacement fixture is now commissioned to the settings of the fixture that was removed and replaced.
- Repeat the Replace Fixture process for all unprogrammed replacement fixtures.
- Click Save Map in the top-left.
- The controls software will need to be updated with the new map file.
- If the facility has LightRules, the map file can be uploaded to LightRules by clicking the Config tab and selecting Manage Map File. Please wait 15 minutes after uploading the map file before using LightRules. The map file will take approximately 15 minutes to process.
- If the facility has SiteWorx, the map file can be emailed to siteworxops@siteworx.io. Please also note the serial numbers of the fixture replacements in the format of "serial number 0400ABCD replaced with serial number 04001234."
