Commission a Lighting Device: Import CSV Data
The guide below details how to add fixtures using the import CSV data method. This method is recommended for all new installations larger than 50 lighting devices (sensors/fixtures). It is not recommended for small additions or troubleshooting.
This is an efficient method to add new lighting devices in large facilities. The commissioning agent will create a CSV file of device serial numbers using a barcode scanner, then import the file to Commissioner. The imported devices can then be quickly organized on the mapfile grid, associated with Zones, and renamed before being sync'd later on.
- Open Commissioner
- Navigate to File > Save Import Template File
- Select the desired file type and format
- PMU: import based on device serial numbers, zone assignments, network settings, and exact positioning as specified by X and Y coordinates. This is a time saving measure to build a partially complete map file when the layout of the facility and operation of the zones is known
- Geometric (most common): import based on relative device position and serial numbers. For example, build a table with 3 columns and 10 rows to create a map containing a 3 x 10 grid of devices
- Zone (Zones only): build a skeleton map file containing only zones and the corresponding network IDs, active power level, inactive power level, and sensor delay for each zone

- Click Ok, and select a known location on the computer then click Save
- Close Commissioner, then open the file saved in the previous step (most commonly, in Excel)
- Fill in the required data for the template
- For PMU and geometric imports, we recommend connecting a barcode scanner. Scan barcodes from the installer sticker map
- For geometric imports, we recommend breaking imports into logical smaller facility parts to stay organized
- Once complete, save the file as a CSV in a known location
- Close the file and open Commissioner
- For PMU and geometric imports: Move the target to the upper-left-most point of the desired import location on the grid
- Click File > Import Map Data, then select the file
- Once the import is complete, select and drag fixtures into position, and use the Fixture Spacing tool to place
- For geometric imports, remember to edit fixtures and assign them to a Zone (select multiple fixtures and right-click to bulk edit)
