Mapfile Background Image

This article explains how to add and manage the background image in a mapfile. The background image is a 2D layout depicting a facility floor plan.

Add a New Background Image

  1. Prepare the background image
    1. Make sure to use a high quality layout that shows only the relevant area of the facility (remove any whitespace and outbuildings)
    2. Images must be in PNG or JPEG format; layouts are often provided in PDF and may need to be exported to a usable format
    3. Recommended: Convert the image to grayscale before import
  2. Open Commissioner
  3. Click File > Load Background Image
  4. Navigate to and select the background image created in Step 1
  5. Recommended: Navigate to Map > Set Backgound Transparency and decrease transparency to about 40%
  6. Tip: As you start adding to the map, change the background scale by navigating to Map > Set Background Scale

Clear or Replace a Background Image

  1. Navigate to File > Clear Background Image
    1. Warning: This will permanently erase the current background image. You can save it first by clicking Export Background Image.
  2. To replace with a new image, follow the steps above to Add a New Background Image
